Phylum Chordata

A Phylum Chordata includes all animals that have these four characteristics; a notochord, a nerve cord, a tail, and pharyngeal pouches. A Phylum is a principal taxonomic category that ranks above Class and below Kingdom. The difference between a vertebrate and an invertebrate is that a vertebrate's Notochord develops into a backbone.
